"I don't have time for makeup but I need to do something."
"It takes too long to put on makeup."
"I'm not sure what to do and it takes too long to do it."
"I have kids, how can I possibly put on makeup?"
Don't have time for makeup but you have flaws you want to flawlessly cover....ummm....this isn't a magical land where fairies grant wishes...I wish it were...then I could eat all the bad food I want and look fantastic.
Flawless skin takes luck, genetics, or time.
WAIT!!!! I do have some good news....
... you can get an even skin tone and do a quick eye in about 5 minutes...do you have time for that?
On a normal day you should at least splashing water on your face and throwing on some eye cream, moisturizer, and sun block. (That takes 2 minutes...you can do it while you are rinsing with mouth wash.) With a few additional minutes you can get a more polished look.
What you will need:
Tinted Moisturizer (or foundation of your choice)
Concealer
Powder (translucent or colored depending on the amount of coverage you want)
neutral eye shadow
mascara
After you apply your eye cream, moisturizer, and sun block wait about 30 seconds (if you can wait 1-2 minutes it's better).
The Breakdown
1. Apply tinted moisturizer/foundation. (I am loving Laura Mercier 's Tinted Mosturizer SPF 20.)
- Use your fingers!! It's quick, cheap, and easy. (Yes you will use more product so if you prefer to save product then use a brush but you will have to clean the brush at least once a week and that is neither quick nor easy.)
- Dot the product around your face then rub it in.
2. Apply concealer to areas that need it.
- Again, use your fingers. (I like Cargo's Onebase base for this step, it's not too heavy and it's moisturizing.)
- Dot over those areas of redness, blemish, veins, or anything else you wish to cover. Just use a tap and pull motion to blend.
- If you have circles use a light tapping motion to blend under your eyes.
3.Set it all with a powder.
- I prefer a large and fluffy powder puff or super soft brush for application. (Eco Tools or Japanesque both have nice brushes. Eco Tools is cheap. Japanesque is affordable/professional grade.)
- If you have dry skin or don't like the feel of powder then you can choose to skip this step, though the powder does help set the makeup and improve wear-time.
- If you want more coverage use a powder with some coverage or color to it. (I like Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder for a sheer set or Cargo blu_ray pressed powder for more coverage. I have even taken a mineral foundation, such as Bare Minerals, and used that if I need heavy coverage.)
4. Apply eye shadow.
- Use your ring finger and sweep some shadow on the pad of the finger.
- Swipe product over the eye lid. You can choose to apply to the whole lid or just to the crease. Either way you will get a more finished look from this simple step. I prefer a taupe or natural color like Little Round Pot #8 Essential by Bourjois Paris.
5. Apply mascara.
- One quick coat is all you need. A cheap and easy to apply mascara such as L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara is great for the women with no money and no time as you can get it at almost any grocery store or CVS. My favorite right now, though, is Size Queen by Two Faced. I love the HUGE double helix brush as it gives both length and volume.
Done!
I think it took longer for me to type this then it would to actually apply the makeup. I am working on a video for this one to show you in real time how quick and effective it can really be.
If you have oily to normal skin then you may want to think about using a powder foundation or mineral foundation. It's very quick and you can skip some of the steps above. An entry for those foundations will be coming up soon. I am still researching.
As always, sent your comments, questions, concerns, etc. my way. Always happy to help when I can.
